Troubleshooting Guide

COFFEE WON'T COME OUT?  FILL SYSTEM ERROR?

Watch the video below first.  We'd love to keep you OUT of the shop!

MICRO SCREEN CLEANING, STEP BY STEP:
Step 1: Move the grinder to a coarser setting

Finer = more back pressure, Coarser = less back pressure.

Step 2: Remove the drawer, and perform a micro-screen cleaning:

A clogged/caked up micro screen must be cleaned manually. You have to manually clean the metal screen up inside of the machine to remove the obstruction.  Here's how to do it:
  • Remove the drawer, tray, box and grid.
  • Locate the metal screen:  With your palm facing upwards, reach up and inside the opening of the machine.  Just behind and above the 'flapper' is a metal screen.  There's a Philips head screen in the middle of the screen (see image above).
  • Once you've found it with your hand, simply use a damp cloth to wipe away all the crud.
  • Put everything back together and brew another coffee.
  • Did coffee come out?  GREAT!  You removed the clog and avoided costly service!  Welcome to The Brew Group:)

If coffee did NOT come out
and instead, water is filling the drawer, you need service.  The brewing mechanism has failed and should be repaired by a trained Jura specialist.  While the machine is in the shop, we recommend complete service in order to keep your machine running great for years to come!

Fill System Error/Open Tap message:

The 'FILL SYSTEM/OPEN TAP' message has a number of causes.  If the above guide doesn't work, remove the filter (if installed) then try again.

If you have adjusted your grinder coarser and have performed a micro screen cleaning but you are still seeing the message, you may need service.  Click the button above.

Do NOT attempt to repair your Jura yourself.  We spend hours upon hours in the shop fixing machines which have been disassembled by the owner, causing unnecessary difficulty when we are asked for help.   It's free and easy to find out the repair cost for your Jura.  Just click the link above.  Thank you!

Pile of grounds at the back of the drawer (overgrinding):

If you recently received service from us, we have tuned the grinder and sent it back to you in the coarsest position, ensuring that your machine won't become plugged. However, you need to adjust the grinder to the right position for the bean you're using.

Light Roast = Fine Grinder Position
Medium Roast = Middle Setting
Dark (non-oily) Roast = Coarsest Grinder position

Tips from TBG:
  • Move 1 click-at-a-time finer.
  • After each cup of coffee, remove the drawer and throw away the excess grounds, so you can tell when the problem is gone.
  • Re-insert the drawer and try again on a finer setting until there are no more grounds at the back of the tray.
  • The grinder is set correctly when there is no overgrinding (a few particles of coffee are OK).
  • Please keep in mind that there may be excess ground coffee underneath or behind the drawer from the overgrinding.  Be sure to wipe out the excess grounds when the drawer is removed.
